In fact, until Spanish troops arrived in 1920, Portuguese and European citizens as a whole were absolutely prohibited from entering the town. This town, located in a natural biosphere reserve, is a holy city built upon a mountain. Fez was founded in the IX century and boasts the oldest Medina in Morocco, as well as one of the oldest universities in the world.
