Information about Ait Ben haddou

Visiting Ait Ben Haddou is like jumping back in time. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1987, the city has presented itself as the perfect place for films such as The Mummy , Gladiator, Jewel of the Nile , Jesus of Nazareth , Lawrence of Arabia, and many more!
Looking at Ait Ben Haddou, you'd really think that you were in a movie! With its Berber architecture and markets, you can wander the city for days and still want to see more of it. Picture the sunrise crowning over cliff one-hundred meters high in the region of Souss -Massa- Draa , creating the perfect backdrop for this fortified city frozen in time with it's adobe houses and mysterious maze of roads. And when you mix the dry ground, desert heat, and some rain, you get a flooding river that gives life to the crops grown around the small town. Like a vision, you'll get to absorb it all from our tour!
What to do

Know what to do and see on your next trip to Ait Ben Haddou

The Kasbah is a combination of conjoined family homes that were banded together as a form of denfense when originally built. Once there were enough families to create the fortifies village we see today, Kasbah became a city. Ait Ben Haddou built large walls to protect their harvest and palm trees that grew along the river banks.

These villages were known as significant argicultural sites as well as places for merchants to sell their textiles and as warrior communities. Ait Ben Haddou was orginially a predominantly agriculturally-oriented economy and because of that was built along a former carravan route between Marrakech and the Sahara Desert for transporting goods and food.
