The money used in Morocco is the dirham (dh). It is not sold in the divisa market and its value is established by the government.
In the north of Morocco the euro is accepted almost everywhere. The exchange rate of the street is 1€ = 10dh, so if you go to a restaurant and pay with a 10€ bill, it will be worth 100dh.
The current US dollar to dirham rate is around $1 = 7 dh
Currently 10dh is approximately equivilent to 1€, even though the official value is 10.50 dh per euro.
The dirham is divided into 100 cents and often prices are expressed in cents not dirhams.
Dirhams come in 10, 20, and 50 cent coins and 1, 5, y 10 dirham coins.
The bills come in 20, 50, 100, and 200 dirhams.
You can exchange for dirhams easily from the reception of your hotel. This rate will be the officialy established rate. Also you can exchange your money in any bank.
Take into account that you can´t use dirhams outside of Morocco. The best time to exchange your leftover money is while you´re waiting for your ferry. The banks at the port of Tangier are open everyday of the week.
Cash, Traveler´s Checks, and Credit Cards
We recommend that you take cash because some ATM´s will eat credit cards.
Travelers checks are not useful. They only have value in luxurious hotels and certain banks.
